About Indus Golf
In April of 2000, Mr. Iqbal (Ike) Singh Sekhon, a patriarch of the Indian community in Dallas and a founding member and first President of the India Association of North Texas, being an avid golfer, invited a few of his ‘South Asian’ golfing friends to play in a golf ‘tournament’ held at Chase Oaks Golf Club in Plano, Texas. A second event was held in the fall called the ‘Iron Ike’ at Ridgeview Ranch Golf Club in Plano and Indus Golf Association was born.
Two events were held up until 2006. That year, Indus Golf organized by electing a committee, passing by laws and starting a golf league with six events annually. Serving the South Asian golf community in the DFW area, Indus Golf encourages competition, camaraderie and charity.
In 2011, Indus Golf Association was changed to a 501(c)(3) Non Profit. In 2012, Indus Golf became a member of The Texas Golf Association.
Ike Sekhon passed away in June 2006. The Iron Ike Memorial was established in his name and is played in October every year in his honor.
All officers of the association volunteer their time to plan and organize golf events that cater to the “Beginner”, casual golfer as well as the “Scratch” amateur. As a member of the Texas Golf Association, all Indus Golf members are eligible to participate in locally sanctioned United States Golf Association (USGA) amateur tournaments. In the coming year, Indus Golf plans to organize events to introduce the game to juniors and provide lessons to those who would like to learn the game.
The Non Profit foundation of Indus Golf undertakes several efforts to serve the local community. Indus Golf has made charitable donations to First Tee of Dallas, Wounded Warriors and other worthy local causes. Indus Golf also conducts an annual CPR training course where participants are CPR certified. In the coming year we plan to continue our mission to pursue volunteer opportunities in the community, raise funds to establish a scholarship fund and continue to support worthy efforts that benefit the community.
